Equine-Assisted Counselling
Brittany views horses as partners in her practice. Horses are intuitive and honest beings; they tend to reflect our own emotions back to us. In counselling sessions horses are used to calm and soothe, gently challenge, and teach new ways of thinking. They can teach about mindfulness, boundaries, leadership, and communication.
Brittany assesses each person from a holistic framework that considers their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. She works with each client differently and at their own level of comfort. Sessions usually include time in the counselling room as well as time spent with the horses in either structured or unstructured activities.
In most cases Brittany’s horse, Santé, is the primary equine facilitator. He is an off-track thoroughbred who was neglected before Brittany took over his care. Santé is a gentle giant with a big personality. He has a kind heart and still shows a little spunk in his old age. He works in partnership with Brittany to help people through a range of mental health issues.
